The Melvins — legendary, uncompromising, potentially insane — tour a lot. Lots of bands tour a lot, right? But do “lots of bands” attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest tour of the United States by a band? No, of course not. That would be insane, uncompromising, legendary… so of course, the Melvins have decided to go for it. What’s the plan? Fifty-one shows in fifty states (plus one in our nation’s proud capitol, Washington, D.C.) in fifty-one days. What are the rules? NO RULES. The band will be rockin’ stages from sea to shining sea, starting September 5 in Anchorage, Alaska and triumphantly concluding in Honolulu, Hawaii. This will be the band’s first-ever appearances in their nearly 30-year history in the fine states of Alaska, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Hawaii.
But wait — there’s more! The Melvins, in their Melvins Lite format (consisting of vocalist/guitarist Buzz Osborne, drummer/vocalist Dale Crover, and bass guitarist/backing vocalist Trevor Dunn) will be criss-crossing Canada (and a few select Western states) in July before they head out on their earth-shattering, record-breaking US tour. Retox will open all of those July dates, with the exception of July 4 and 20. The Melvins just released their latest full-length on Ipecac this week, Freak Puke, and they’ll be repping the new tracks at a couple of pre-world record tour events, including an appearance tomorrow at the Echoplex in L.A., and a June 30 appearance at NYC’s TT Underground Gallery. And if all that wasn’t cray cray enough for you… Buzz Osborne will be a guest on Fox News’ Red Eye with Greg Gutfield on June 28. Wow. Melvins for President 2012! Come on, guys, just think about it… if you aren’t already.
