First of all: Ahhhh. Let’s all bask in the soooooothing, warm, and comfy vibes that come from just knowing that Jason “J. Spaceman” Pierce is still alive and kicking out there in his lonely low orbit around earth. <3

Buck Meek Buck Meek
Styles: “rumbling, grumbling, tumbling down the sky towards the under side of the world”
Others: Adrianne Lenker, Alex G, Mat Davidson
Buck Meek was born Buck Meek in Wimberley, Texas, probably. Who knows the truths with names and places with these country song singers? Wimberley was and is 45 minutes off of Austin, a good place for glass sculptors and child psychologists like Buck Meek’s dad and mom, respectively, respectfully. Kid Buck Meek started guitaring early on, outlaw country licks and manouche jazz slips, lots of Django, lots of Slim Richey. And then Buck Meek went to Berklee and then he moved to New York City to make music with Adrianne Lenker.

Alexandra Drewchin talks choreography, new album on PAN, and Cardi B
The last major releases from Eartheater — NYC-based composer/choreographer Alexandra Drewchin — were the double-hit of RIP Chrysalis and Metalepsis. Dropped back in 2015 on Hausu Mountain, both albums used Drewchin’s hardware accented guitar-and-operatic-vocals to build a strange, special, and beautiful discography that, free of easy comparisons, felt a little like a planet unto itself.

I will never give birth, but lately, my pupils have been calling me “grrrrrrrl,” unknowingly perhaps. I remember in college learning about gender roles in apes, how even in different mammalian species, there is remarkable variance in how different sexes divide labor concerning care of children; child rearing doesn’t require being born with a pussy, and neither does being a mother. I will never give birth, but motherhood doesn’t give a fuck about where children come from; historically, it seems, only fathers and evil stepmothers do.

Erin Rae Putting on Airs
Styles: indie rock, folk rock, alternative country
Others: Angel Olsen, Big Thief
Like so many people born in the 1990s, Erin Rae McKaskle is infatuated with anachronisms. Her music drips with the influence of a bygone era of folk and country singers, one that revels in the resonance of deep vocal reverb and the intimacy of closely-mic’d acoustic guitars.

“To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, — that is genius. Speak your latent conviction, and it shall be the universal sense; for the inmost in due time becomes the outmost….”
