The Flaming Lips have a new album. It’s called King’s Mouth, and it will be out in April 2019 on Record Store Day. Staying true to their ethos of being on the cutting edge of edges we didn’t even know existed though: this isn’t any ordinary album.
Well, I mean of course it isn’t…but in particular, King’s Mouth will feature narration from Mick Jones! You may remember him from such albums as Sandinista? I Hardly Know Her! and London Calling II: Look Who’s Calling Now!
To quote Wayne Coyne’s post from his Instagram announcing the album, “Man!!! Sooooo cool heart emoji, four santa emojis, seven heart emojis, five santa emojis, two praying hand emojis, five heart emojis.”
I can’t say for sure one way or the other that, as a nation, we are necessarily clamoring for an album that features a narrator but…we’re gettin’ one! Wonder if this will make the album easier, or even more difficult to follow…
There’s not much else detail at the moment; and as of writing, Coyne has yet to follow through on his promise of posting a video clip so we can hear what Jones sounds like as a narrator. But, the post does @ Nile Rodgers, Dan Deacon, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone (among others), so let’s just grossly speculate that all of these people will be involved in the album in some way. Coyne also includes the hashtag #spongebobbroadway, maybe King’s Mouth will be a tie-in to that musical — which The Flaming Lips contributed music to — as well…
All will be revealed I suppose when King’s Mouth, the new album from The Flaming Lips that features Mick Jones as a narrator, comes out in April 2019 on Record Store Day? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
