The Flaming Lips emerge for Record Store Day exclusive LP King's Mouth

The world’s hottest underground holiday that you can’t get time off for, Record Store Day, is fast approaching once again, and like Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the cursed Krampus, RSD’s perennial mascots The Flaming Lips are serving up something special for us all on their most holiest of days.

To wit: the band’s 15th studio album, King’s Mouth, is getting an exclusive vinyl release on this year’s Record Store Day, April 13. It will be limited to just 4,000 copies (On gold vinyl! Featuring an “accompanying literary tome,” King’s Mouth: Immerse Heap Trip Fantasy Experience, filled with words and visuals from Wayne Coyne himself!) and only available in your local participating indie record stores (sorry, F.Y.E.-heads!).

The album “parallels” Coyne’s 2015 art installation, also called King’s Mouth, and as we mentioned late last year, it features narration from The Clash’s Mick Jones on nearly all the tracks. Coyne adds: “The King’s Mouth immersive/child-like qualities are born from the same spark and womb as The Flaming Lips live performances. The King’s Mouth adventure was made for humans of all sizes, ages, cultures, and religions.” That’s inclusive as hell, baby!

Stretching the use of the word “exclusive,” the album will see another version released in July, so if you’re still creeped out by the clerk from your local record store calling that The 1975 album “a work of great beauty,” you’ve got options!

Now get to sidewalk-camping!
