Despite the fact that exactly half of all record stores are permanently leased out by The Flaming Lips’ prodigious discography, the band has never released an official live album.
That reportedly changes next month, as the band is set to release The Soft Bulletin Recorded Live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, a live version of their iconic 1999 record The Soft Bulletin, recorded live, at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, with Colorado’s Colorado Symphony Orchestra, in 2016. It’s out November 29 through Warner Records.
The Soft Bulletin Recorded Live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra—the new version of The Soft Bulletin recorded in a live setting at the Red Rocks music performance venue alongside the Colorado Symphony Orchestra orchestra—features all 12 tracks from the original album performed with a 68-piece orchestra and 57-piece choir (which is just about one person for every Flaming Lips release). The announcement of the live album coincides with the 30th anniversary of The Soft Bulletin (or thereabouts).
The Soft Bulletin Recorded Live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra — the band’s live-recorded take on their album The Soft Bulletin, in partnership with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and performed on the stage set upon some of the state’s most crimson and mountain-like structures—can be pre-ordered on digital, CD, and 2xLP formats here. Check out the tracklisting below alongside the live version of opening track “Race for the Prize.”
