Zomby details new EP GASP!, shares title track, really startled me there
Ooooooooooh! Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!

It’s been just about a year since U.K. producer Zomby dropped his album Ultra on Hyperdub, but how much longer will we have to wait for him to once again rise from the dead? Well, hopefully you’re pretty good at identifying rhetorical questions, because the king of the jungle(-influenced dance music) is ALIIIIIIIVE! once again with a brand new EP: GASP! (AH!) on Big Dada.

As always, Zomby’s is carefully cultivating an air of mystery surrounding this thing. Here are the details:

Arcade Fire Everything Now

[Sonovox/Columbia; 2017]

Styles: indie rock, dance-rock
Others: Occupy Wall Street, www.tumblr.com, Abba

The despair of Everything Now is compelling, because it’s familiar. It’s the same despair that we feel every time we clock in for work or check our phones — it’s the despair of knowing on some level, perhaps subconsciously, that we’re somehow out of touch with what it means to be alive, to be happy, to be free. We live largely confined lives, spending our waking hours participating in culture, trying to make ends meet, and, to paraphrase Kanye West, checking Instagram comments to crowdsource our self-esteem.

Sheer Mag Need to Feel Your Love

[Wilsuns RC; 2017]

Styles: rock, DIY, guitar, punk, lofi
Others: Cheap Trick, A Giant Dog, Royal Trux, The Band, Steppenwolf, Thin Lizzy, Diarrhea Planet, Alabama Shakes, The Stooges,

Need to Feel Your Love, Sheer Mag’s first full-length, is perhaps this year’s most calculated and thoroughly effective summer album. By moving through a consistent array of riffs, hooks, and grooves, Sheer Mag augment their previously thin discography with little variance from the path.

Danny L Harle is one of the most celebrated artists on the PC Music label, based on a string of deadly singles and collaborations with everyone from Panda Bear and Tinashe to Carly Rae Jepsen and Charli XCX. His first single, “Broken Flowers,” was what he called an attempt at writing a “completely conventional song,” but the SHAPE-affiliated artist has since branched out stylistically.

Matt Mondanile: local sports authority.

Stop me if you think that you’ve read this one before: Matt Mondanile is releasing new Ducktails music! But wait…Mondanile must have emptied out his Ducktails archives by now. After all, he’s already put out two compilations of fine, artisanal unreleased material this year.

Offa Rex The Queen of Hearts

[Nonesuch; 2017]

Styles: folk
Others: Fairport Convention, Anne Briggs, Ewan MacColl

As I walked out one morn in May, I came to a triple-forking road. The first path led to the sooty mouth of mines and to smoke-belching factories; the second to a clearing where a bloodied knife rested in the flattened grass; the third to a field of flowers lit by the rays of afternoon and to the golden hayrick.
