Mr. Mitch announces tour, offers EXCLUSIVE track-by-track breakdown of new album Devout (because nothing pairs with "music" like "words!")

Unless you’re my (adorable!) niece who just turned two yesterday, you’ve probably endured the entire 72-hour brunt of this past weekend with the full, excruciating awareness that UK grime god Mr. Mitch’s new album Devout came out this past Friday (April 21) on Planet Mu and that you haven’t yet had the time to consider snatching-up your copy of the filial-piety-themed opus.

Styles: embers, maps, teacups, veins
Others: Julie Doiron, Mary Lou Lord, Ida

I was walking up a mountain the first time I heard Tara Jane O’Neil’s new self-titled collection of songs. It felt odd to hike with headphones on, but my mood that afternoon made music seem necessary. For the whole weekend, my mind had been, in Pat Beane’s words, “buzzing with noise and nothing-anxiety.” I thought some songs might help, and I started to climb, letting the album’s tempo set my speed up the trail. We took a contemplative pace.

Following her Staycore debut Muscle Memory in 2015, the fresh-outta-high school, 19-year-old,
Britney Spears-spearing, LITERAL wunderkind known as Toxe has announced the imminent release of an ambitious new “experimental audio-visual work” entitled Morning Story, courtesy of The Vinyl Factory. (For comparison: I picked up golf-balls at a driving range for a living when I was 19.)

Great news, non-violent ravers! In keeping with the ancient-but-timeless mantra “Peace…Love…Spasmodic Electronica,” legendary Syrian musician/performer Omar Souleyman has just announced the resumption of his ongoing mission to (just guessing here:) “spread all the love and all the good vibes to all the possible places all the time always” via the announcement of his third album for the Mad Decent label.

Have a seat. Is this your first time with us?

You came here before with your ex. But this is your first time alone.

You have a seat, noting with keen sense the memory foam on the laid-back massage chair.

You never knew it could feel this good. I told you it wouldn’t be easy.

Your therapist will be with you momentarily.

OK, thanks.

You rub your ankles, knees, and all-over. You’re tense. You’ve been the victim of a phantom itch that’s overstayed its welcome far too long.

"Stupid teenagers wasting their lives away with their Facebooks and merch bundles!" - Grandpa

Lil Yachty, who my friend hates (FYI), has announced his debut album, Teenage Emotions. Perhaps because having a shit-ton of tracks helps you chart these days, Teenage Emotions boasts 21 of ‘em, with features from the likes of Migos, Diplo, YG & Kamaiyah, Stefflon Don, and more.

The time has come! Following 2015’s double EP In Situ on Honest Jon’s, Laurel Halo returns to Hyperdub for her third full-length. Titled Dust, the album features “a collection of breezy, broken songs, based on woody instrumentation, sub bass and restless, intricate electronics,” according to a press release. “Earnest songwriting meets with modal cut-up strategies, improvisational playing with higrade digital dust.”

I am thy rad mixtape purveyor; thou shalt have no other rad mixtape purveyors besides me.

Look, I know it can be hard in this day and age to take your mind off pseudo-surprise releases, retail playlists, and visual albums, but please try to show some gratitude for the mixtape format. Mixtapes have always been there for you, even when you haven’t been there for them. Mixtapes understand when you’re happy, when you’re sad.
