Have you seen us here at TMT raving about Delroy Edwards and want to dive in, but are one of those folks who can’t go for — or won’t tolerate — an album over 18 tracks long?

Well, then the news is good for you friend, because Delroy Edwards has teamed with Mickey van Seenus to both form the duo Earth To Mickey and release Brace & Bit, an EP that’s only…

Bon Iver has a new album coming out and a weird relationship with commas.

Said album is titled i, i, and it’s releasing August 30; two new songs and videos have been shared along with the album’s announcement. They are “Jelmore” and “Faith.”

Anatolian Weapons To the Mother of Gods

[Beats in Space; 2019]

Styles: electroorganic, psychedelia, LSD, not your regular folk, Greek™
Others: Can, Embryo’s Ni Hau, Lizard King

In William Gibson’s The Peripheral, an omniscient character, a post-human Pythia, recollects about the future from a past not their own: “Eras are conveniences, particularly for those who never experienced them. We carve history from totalities beyond our grasp. Bolt labels on the result. Handles. Then speak of the handles as though they were things in themselves.”

If Blood Bitch was a “complete 180°” from Jenny Hval’s previous album, Apocalypse, girl, then what should we consider a new release that promises major-scale pop songs underscored by thematic love and intimacy in the occasional self-described “greeting card” sense of the concept?

If you’ve been waiting for this, then you’ve probably just been waiting for permission. Permission to gnaw that node, chew that tendon, taste that tibia. Well, it’s here, folks, and it’s being delivered (by Margaret Chardiet, of course) on a pulverizing platter of sonic aggression and the auditory equivalent of blood and guts. Mmm-mmm good!

Blood Orange announces Angel’s Pulse mixtape

Blood Orange announces Angel's Pulse mixtape

So, I was just doing my daily ritual, browsing around the blogosphere (which is just a cute little word I came up with, nbd), when suddenly I thought, Where are all the bloody mixtapes?! I mean, it’s 2019! Why are we still talking about albums like it’s 1959 or something? I crave release strategies for the 21st century! Put out more mixtapes so this site’s accidental click-throughs from Google spike the way they did when Lil Wayne was dropping music like middle-school-me dropping my 2002 Sony Walkman out of my cargo shorts’ pockets!

Holly Herndon PROTO

[4AD; 2019]

Styles: proto-[signifier], anachro-glossolalia, anti-syncretic chant
Others: Oneohtrix Point Never, Laurel Halo, Wendy Carlos, Jlin, ADR

It began with a breath…

huuuuuuuuuuph!

then, collapse:

phuuuuuuuuuuh!

…and then it started breathing… unnaturally, at first… but, eventually, it found a rhythm…

…and then, a Platform… where it indicted its surveyors.

In time… it caught its breath… started writing its own history. It went like this:

Music is just about dead. It’s been in a downtrend for years now, continually re-testing the strength of one of its last major levels of support. But the more you consolidate above support, the more likely it’ll break to the downside for further lows, which is when music fans will start panic selling their music and looking for different markets to pour their money into.

With a cascade of releases spewing from the likes of DatPiff, LiveMixtapes, Bandcamp, and SoundCloud, it can be difficult to keep up with the overbearing yet increasingly vital mixtape game. In this column, we aim to immerse ourselves in this hyper-prolific world and share our favorite releases each month. The focus will primarily be on rap mixtapes — loosely defined here as free (or sometimes free-to-stream) digital releases — but we’ll keep things loose enough to branch out if/when we feel it necessary.

♫♪  Kanye West - “Brothers”

THERE'S ROOM IN THIS FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION FOR MORE THAN ONE BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, DENISE!

Reality is upon us: Kanye West’s newest song, “Brothers,” premiered today on the BET anthology series Tales. Produced by Irv Gotti and Seven (Murder Inc), the track flips “Violent Crimes” and “Heard ‘Em Say” for some chop-up-the soul, set-on-his-goals-era Kanye, with Charlie Wilson once again assisting on vocals. Best lyric: “As soon as I cut the grass low / It’s easier to see the assholes.”
