DJ Python Derretirse
Styles: deep reggaeton
Others: Anthony Naples, Bad Bunny, Chris Jeday, Project Pablo
As the sun ascends with stunning regularity and undulating light, so Derretirse opens as a warm mouth. These six songs rise up from the heat like wet masses of swollen dough — sublime eventualities of nature. Thick carpets of mosses and lichens unroll in earthen colors. Sticky pollens lick the hands that touch them. To blow a dandelion into the wind: each time is as beautiful as the last.

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Bandana
Styles: hip-hop
Others: Mobb Deep, Slum Village, Madvillain, Scarface
By creating new works, artists fit another piece into the vast, swirling mosaic of stylistic development that links all compositions into one staggeringly complex, interconnected whole. An intricate matrix of factors determines where their piece will fall, but the artist has limited agency in choosing the general proximity and engages (knowingly or unknowingly) in conversation with nearby works.

Styles: new zones, a Vlad Guerrero Jr. homerun, “a million feet for the world we’re gonna make”
Others: Moth Cock, Toiret Status, Foodman
When I was a little thing, I wanted a million Brannock devices.
When you’re a little thing, a million is incomprehensible — if you asked a little thing what a million things looked like, they’d probably describe what a hundred looks like. Which honestly is enough of most things, a hundred. If we let our little things mete out how many things each person got to have, the disparity might look more even.

Experimental duo Emptyset to get all ambitious and flowery on forthcoming AI album (despite the relatively dispassionate band name)
I know what you’re thinking: “Goddamn, how much more ‘experimental’ can James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas of the U.K./Berlin visceral electro superduo Emptyset even GET, Dan?”
Well, first of all: thanks so much for swearing. I really think people should swear more. Seriously. I think it’s great.
Second of all, I got four words for you: fuckin’ MACHINE LEARNING, pal!

Patient Sounds to cease operations at the end of 2019, announces forthcoming releases and farewell celebration show in Chicago in August
For ten years, Matthew Sage has been running his Patient Sounds imprint decidedly outside “the music industry,” releasing a mess of enigmatic electronic/ambient/free noise music and small press publications as a DIY labor of love. It is with some summertime sadness to hear that Sage has announced that this year will be the last for Patient Sounds.
