As the old fable goes: if you give an electronic musician a hugely successful album, they might just launch their own record label. If they do, they’ll probably start making music under a new moniker. When they start doing that, they’re going to need to create albums that just won’t fit on a single LP.

There was a time in my life when I was almost exclusively listening to beat tapes. That obsession had long since faded until just recently, when nostalgia made me revisit some of my most fondly-remembered tapes. Going through them, I realized most of my favorite tracks were the ones where the drums mattered the least. I apparently never really cared much for the beats themselves when listening to beat tapes.
SURPRISE! Dedekind Cut has graced us on this fine American holiday we call Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a brand new mixtape. Hinted at yesterday via Instagram, बड़ा शोक (heart break) is released under his new moniker Barrio Sur, and it sees Dedekind Cut getting some help/inspiration from the likes of Max Lesser and Dirty Beaches’s Alex Zhang Hungtai.
